Good Enough to Dream eBook Roger Kahn

Roger Kahn’s first major league hit, THE BOYS OF SUMMER, was his runaway bestseller that immortalized the 1950s Brooklyn Dodgers. Now Kahn does the same for players whose moment in the sun has not yet arrived.
GOOD ENOUGH TO DREAM is the story of Kahn’s year as owner of the Class A, very minor league, Utica Blue Sox. Most of the Blue Sox never made it to the majors, but they all shared the dream that links the small child in the sandlot with the superstar who has just smacked one out of the stadium. This is a look at baseball unadorned, a game still sweet enough to lure grown men to leagues where first-class transportation was an old school bus and the infield was likely to be the consistency of thick soup. It is a funny and poignant story of one season, and one special team, that will make us hesitate before we ever call anything “bush league” again.

Good Enough to Dream eBook Roger Kahn
Baseball historian Roger Kahn writes poetry into prose in this enthralling book about his time as the owner of the minor league team the Utica New York Blue Sox. One feels through his writing that the on the diamond and front office battles of this small franchise are much like miniaturized versions of the struggles of the New York Yankees. As Kahn describes dealing with shady politicians, baseball league administrators, struggling to meet payroll and a battling team of players who were castoffs from other teams. But although precious few of the Blue Sox will ever go on to play in the major's 'there good enough to dream.'Product details

Good Enough to Dream eBook Roger Kahn Reviews
another great Roger Kahn book! Read them all!! Boys of Summer is also, of course a must-read book! I've been reading baseball books since I was ten, and now I'm sixty-four.
Son enjoyed reading it.
This book is a classic for a reason.
I loved this book, and gave this time as a gift.
In 1985, I almost drove halfway across the Nation to play in the New York Penn League. I did not, but have always wondered what it might have been like. Thank you Roger Kahn for helping me to have an inside look at what I missed out on. The balance with which Roger reports the realities of the inner- workings of a Minor League Independent Baseball Team shows his in-depth understanding of the game and the people who love and play it. It's a must-read for anyone whoever thought,"what if"?
Living the dream from the front office. The trials a tribulations of owning an independent minor league baseball team and the supreme elation of victory. I loved reading this book from one of our most knowledgeable sportswriters. It also gives one an appreciation for the folks who work at the minor league level wearing many hats to keep everything running and the fans happy. Roger Kahn, you really do bring the game to us with your wonderful books.
I loved this book. Roger Kahn reminds me of George Plimpton in that great combination of literary prowess and deep love for a sport and it’s history, and this stage made the book Plimptonesque in a perfect way. There are several books in this exact genre, I can think of four others in the time it takes to write this sentence. This, to me, is the best of those, the best profile of the hopes and dreams of an Indy minor league team and season ever written.
